Elizabeth Byrnes, LMHC
Therapist
My therapy philosophy…
Before anything else, I want you to feel safe—emotionally, psychologically, and relationally. My goal is to offer a warm, open, and honest space where we can work together to clearly define what you want from therapy and create a path to get there.
We’re wired to seek relief, connection, and meaning. That framework shapes the way I think about change—how to get more of what we want, and less of what we don’t. That’s what therapy is all about: feeling better, living more fully, and finding new ways to move forward.
My style…
I’m a direct, engaged, and results-focused therapist. With many years of experience, I bring both clinical confidence and creative problem-solving to our work. I’ll help you stay oriented toward your goals while giving space for whatever needs to emerge along the way.
Therapy with me is active and structured, with clear direction and momentum. I believe in your capacity for change, and I bring flexibility, skill, and encouragement to help you navigate the obstacles that show up.
My most important credentials and successes…
I have extensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), a powerful, evidence-based treatment originally developed for borderline personality disorder and now used to address a wide range of struggles—especially those involving intense emotions, self-harm, disordered eating, or substance use.
I also specialize in parent coaching, drawing on both my training in the Kazdin Method of parent management and years of working with adolescents and families in DBT. If you’re feeling stuck with a challenging child or teen, I can help you build a clear, supportive behavior plan—and offer guidance every step of the way.
I’m also trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Prolonged Exposure for trauma, Family-Based Treatment (FBT) for adolescent eating disorders, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Specialist Supported Clinical Management (SSCM) for severe anorexia, and DBT-based interventions for emotional eating.
Fun facts about me…
I never pass up an estate sale—I find them moving, sobering, and full of hidden stories.
I love refurbishing old furniture and giving things new life.
Even when I leave empty-handed, I enjoy the chance to reflect on the lives behind the objects.
